If your vehicle meets ALL of the following criteria, you will receive a SOUTH DAKOTA plate/title:

• Gas powered

• Over 199cc

• Title, Transferable Registration (From your state), MCO (If bought from dealer), or bill of sale only (if financing)

If your vehicle meets ANY of the following criteria, you’ll get an ARIZONA plate/title:

• You have a bill of sale only

• You have an engine under 200cc

• Certificate Of Origin (aka: MCO) if bought from a private party

• Transferable registration (not from your state)

• Electric ATV

For South Dakota:

• ID/Passport/Drivers License (Copy)

• Social Sec. Card, 1099, W2, 1098, or Pay Stub copy (your full Social Security number must be displayed)

• Title/MCO with Bill of Sale, Transferable Registration, or just a Bill of Sale (if financing)

• Sales Tax or Proof of tax paid (in the form of a dealer bill of sale or DMV tax receipt)

For Arizona:

• ID/Passport/Drivers License (Copy)

• Title, Certificate of origin, Transferable registration, or just a bill of sale if that's all you have

• Sales Tax or Proof of tax paid

For a South Dakota plate, it’ll be 2-3 weeks to get the license plate and registration, and another 6-7 weeks to receive the title. Allow 3-8 weeks if you’re financing.

For an Arizona plate, it’ll be 1-2 weeks to get a temporary tag which we will email to you, and 3-5 weeks to get your actual license plate, registration, and title.

You need to renew your ATV’s registration each year, but we’ve made it super easy so you don't have to deal with the hassle of contacting the DMV and sitting on hold for hours.

All you need to do is sign up for our auto-renewal program. Once you’re enrolled, we’ll automatically process your renewal when it’s time for you to renew.

That means whether you’re busy or have more important things to worry about, your registration renewal will automatically show up at your doorstep right when you need it! Simple.

Sales tax for South Dakota will be 4%. Tax exemptions only apply in rare cases, as shown here.

For Arizona, sales tax will be 6%.

Both will be calculated using the vehicle purchase price or NADA Value, whichever is HIGHER.

Note: Dirt Legal will invoice you for tax if you owe it. You will not be auto-charged.

If you’ve already paid taxes, you’ll need to provide proof of tax paid in one of two ways:

1. If you paid tax to a dealership, we provide a form that has to be signed by the dealer which can be emailed to them, we can accept copies of this form.

2. If you paid taxes to the DMV, then we need an actual DMV receipt, NOT a receipt from a private tag agency.
