Everyone Needs a Mahindra Roxor on Tank Tracks

The Roxor is an off-roader produced by the Indian carmaker Mahindra and offered to customers in North America as a UTV. Since its release, Americans and Canadians alike have been captivated by this all-terrain vehicle. They also haven’t wasted any time making wild modifications and changing the entire dynamics of the Roxor, and the craziest mod of all is putting a Mahindra Roxor on tank tracks.

Tank Tracks on a Roxor?

Before we go any further, it seems fitting that you check out the video evidence of a Mahindra Roxor on tank tracks first. This video was uploaded to YouTube by the professional tuners over at Diesel Freak. It shows the Roxor climbing up a ski slope despite a ton of snow being packed down on it. A stock Roxor wouldn’t have been able to make it ten feet in that mess but this one makes it look easy.

This modified Mahindra Roxor didn’t just grab our attention, it captured Anand Mahindra’s as well. That’s the one and only Chairman of the Mahindra Group, the massive business behind much of the United States’ tractor market, a sizable chunk of India’s car market, and of course, the humble Roxor.

The CEO wasted no time sending out a tweet to show his love for this ridiculous off-roader. In his tweet, he shares four images of this Roxor.

As you can see in the video, when the Roxor is outfitted with tracks, it can handle the thick snow without an issue. It even goes in circles through the ski resort. We are positive that other vehicles equipped with regular wheels would have never been able to accomplish the same feat. Still, buying a set of tank tracks is not for the faint of heart, nor the light of wallet.

Imagine if everyone had something like this. We would save millions on unnecessary road maintenance every year, school would never be snowed out again, and empty mountainsides the world over would be turned into winter gymkhana wonderlands. George Orwell didn’t see that one coming.

Nothing Out of the Ordinary

It’s actually not unusual to see a vehicle with caterpillar tracks on it in Alaska, Colorado, or the Swiss Alps. After all, these places see a lot of snow throughout the year and the tracks help to distribute weight across a larger area to keep the vehicle from sinking in the snow. That’s exactly what they are used for on this modified Roxor as well, it's just crazy to see something that costs more than the vehicle it’s on.

I’m Not Usually Like This, I Promise

The Mahindra Roxor isn’t usually a rip-roaring tank-tracked go-anywhere off-roader. The Roxor receives its power through a 2.5-liter diesel engine that pumps out 62 horsepower plus 130 lb.-ft of torque. That’s paired with a five-speed gearbox and backed by standard four-wheel drive.

The world-renowned engineering madmen over at Mattracks have developed a one-off tank track system specifically for the Mahindra Roxor. The Mattracks zRX Tank Tracks Kit is proudly designed, engineered, and built in the United States specifically for the Mahindra Roxor, and it’s unlike any other model in the Mattracks portfolio.

But the Roxor’s base price is around $16,000, a few thousand less than an installed set of Mattracks tank tracks. It’s crazy that this one modification doubles the price of a Roxor, but that’s the world we live in and we’re not about to complain.

The stock model features 40-inch Hi Lites bar, BFGoodrich KO2 radial tires, an MTX soundbar plus under seat storage. It can reach a top speed of 55 mph, a lot more if you have the cojones to tune one.

Could you see yourself having this kind of fun?
