Breaking News: Ford Issues Recall for Over 272,000 Bronco Sport and Maverick Vehicles Due to Battery Failure Risks
Ford Motor Company is recalling 272,817 vehicles in the U.S. due to concerns about potential battery failures, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced on January 23.
Affecting specific 2021-2023 Bronco Sport crossovers and 2022-2023 Maverick pickups, the recall is due to risks associated with battery failure, according to the New York Post.
The 12-volt battery may deteriorate and fail unexpectedly, which can lead to a loss of electrical accessories, such as hazard lights, or result in a loss of drive power. This situation increases the risk of a crash, according to the U.S. Auto Safety Regulator.
The NHTSA stated that as of November 20, 2024, Ford was unaware of any crashes related to this issue.
Impacted vehicles will be repaired at no cost at Ford and Lincoln dealerships, Fox 2 Detroit said.
The recall bulletin states that if this issue occurs while the vehicle is in motion, it may have difficulty slowing down or could fail to restart after stopping automatically, which increases the risk of a crash.
Furthermore, this problem might also cause the hazard lights to malfunction, according to Fox 2 Detroit.
Owners of the affected vehicles should receive a recall letter by mail.
