Tesla Inc. said it will recall about 380,000 U.S. vehicles over a power steering assist failure that could possibly increase steering effort at low speeds, increasing the risk of an accident, Reuters News said.

Made public on Feb. 21, Tesla said in a filing that some 2023 Model 3 sedans and Model Y crossovers may experience an overvoltage breakdown. This brings upon a possibility of overstressing the motor drive components on the printed circuit board, Automotive News said.

If the overstress condition occurs while the vehicle is in motion, the steering will be unaffected, and a visual alert is triggered, although, once the vehicle is stopped, the steering assist is possible to fail and will stay disabled while it begins to move again, Tesla said.

The recall follows an over-year-long investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) after several Tesla owners reported issues with steering failures.

According to Automotive News, more than 50 vehicles were reportedly towed due to this specific problem, as noted by the NHTSA last year.

This recall is Tesla’s second large recall of 2025, following a January recall regarding malfunctioning rearview cameras for about 239,000 vehicles, Reuters News said.

Rivian Recall

Rivian Automotive has issued a recall for 17,260 vehicles in the U.S. due to a headlight defect that could impair visibility and heighten the risk of a crash, according to the NHTSA.

The auto safety regulator stated that in cold weather, the low-beam headlights may fail to turn on when the vehicle starts. The recall applies to specific 2025 R1S SUVs and R1T pickups, Automotive News said.

To resolve the issue, Rivian will replace the headlight control modules at no cost, as outlined in the regulator’s report, according to Reuters News.
