WhistlinDiesel Destroyed a Ferrari. But there's more to it.
If you know anything about the YouTuber WhistlinDiesel you’re probably aware of the abuse his cars, trucks, dirt bikes, and heavy equipment go through. The majority of his destruction used to focus on more “normal” vehicles like lifted trucks with absurd modifications, ATVs/3 wheelers, or “vehicle testing” which is just sending a vehicle as hard as possible to see when it breaks.
As his page has grown, Cody Detwiler (WhistlinDiesel) has expanded to higher end vehicles like Lamborghini, Audi, and Mercedes. More specifically, Ferrari.
What Ferrari Did WhistlinDiesel Have?
WhistlinDiesel owned a Ferrari F8 Tributo until it went down in flames while filming a video driving through a cornfield in Texas. In one of his YouTube video titles, he said he paid $400,000 for the car. This is likely true, and a MASSIVE loss with no insurance to help with the damages.
Ferrari is known for their particularity in how their cars are driven and used by the vehicle's owner. The company expects each vehicle to be treated with the same care and honor by the vehicle owner that the Ferrari name holds. This isn’t an issue for the majority of owners, but when a professional vehicle destroyer buys a Ferrari, chances are pretty low that the car will be treated respectfully.
This isn’t to say Cody is disrespectful, but he drives vehicles how they’re supposed to be driven… to their full potential, and then some.
Uninsured… Total Loss
After the fire was extinguished, and only ashes remained, Cody was asked “How do we know this wasn’t just an insurance scheme?” his response was “I have the most minimal insurance to cover other people's stuff, not my own.”
This is believable, even though none of the accidents he gets into are “on purpose,” it’s understandable why insurance companies wouldn’t want to risk insuring a vehicle that has a high chance of being used to stunt in a YouTube video.
Even if it’s not for a video… for example, if the insurance company knows a vehicle was being driven recklessly or illegally, it’s possible they will void coverage on the vehicle unless the negligence damages other vehicles or individuals in which case, the insurance company would likely cover the damages to another’s property. No matter if the vehicle is used for reckless or legal driving, it’s still important to insure a vehicle if it will be driven on roadways.
In WhisltinDiesel’s case, he probably doesn’t insure the majority of his toys because they aren’t typically driven on roadways, and their demise is soon to come in a handful of full sends. The off chance his are insured, like the Ferrari, it’s only liability coverage to be legal for on-road use.
Even his rental car in this video wasn’t insured for total loss. Imagine having a few hundred thousand dollars disappear in a matter of minutes and all that can be done is buy another one out of pocket and pay the rental company for their brand new minivan.
The majority of us don’t have that kind of cash, at the same time, most people aren’t destroying a six-figure car for fun, so insurance companies are much more likely to issue full coverage on a vehicle owned by an everyday driver.
Save On Vehicle Registration
Ferrari’s are obviously on the more expensive side of vehicle purchases so many people like to take advantage of the benefits that come with owning a Montana asset-holding LLC. If you’re planning to buy a new or used vehicle and it will be paid in cash, you would benefit by registering it in a Montana LLC.
The most valuable uses of a Montana LLC include tax-free vehicle purchases and registration, permanent registration, and license plates for vehicles 11 years old or older (1 ton or under), and you can register as many vehicles in one LLC as you like.
