Power of Attorney
What is a Notary?
A Notary is a licensed public official who verifies your identity as the signer, ensuring you sign under your own free will, and witnesses the signing of the document. Their role is to prevent fraud; making sure the right person is signing the document
What do I need to do?
This form must be notarized which means it must be signed in front of a notary. They will also stamp your form in a designated area.
Notarization can be completed virtually or in person. Which option is best for you will depend on your circumstance.
Notarizing online
This form can be completed by a notary service online. If you notarize online, we will need a copy of the Verification Form. We recommend Notarize.com, but there are many options out there.
Create an account at Notarize.com or a similar website
Complete the notarization process for the power of attorney and download a copy
Download the Verification Form
If using Notarize.com, Navigate to "Your Documents" -> "Completed" -> "View" -> "Document"
Hover on the bottom right-hand side of the doc and click the green download button (Click here to see a sample Verification Form)
If you use a different online notary site, we need a similar verification proof.
Notarizing in person
When working with a notary in person, you will sign the form in front of the notary so they can notarize your signature and place their stamp on the page. In some states like California, the notary may include a separate form called a Jurat as shown here. If they do, we need the Jurat as well.
If there are two people listed on the Power of Attorney, both people will need to be present and sign the document in front of the notary.
Where to find a notary
Notaries can be found in many places. While many notaries are free, others charge about $10 per notarized page. Here is the order we suggest looking for a notary:
Start with your local bank. Your bank should provide a notary service free of charge.
Try a UPS Store. Most UPS Stores provide notary services at a low price.
Try a bank that isn’t yours. Any bank should have a notary that the public can use.
Finally, try a Post Office. Most Post Office locations provide reasonably priced notary services.
Why is this needed?
A Power of Attorney is a legal document that is used to grant another party limited rights to perform certain actions on your behalf. In our case, it allows our staff to handle paperwork related to your vehicle and completion of your order. It is not used for anything outside the scope of completing your order.
