Stellantis, owners of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and more, has officially introduced STLA AutoDrive, its first internally developed automated driving system. This technology enables hands-free, eyes-off (SAE Level 3) driving, according to CBT News.
STLA AutoDrive plays a key role in Stellantis' larger technology strategy, complementing STLA Brain and STLA Smart Cockpit, emphasizing vehicle intelligence, automation, and user experience, Stelantis said.
The system’s hands-free, eyes-off functionality operates at speeds of up to 37 mph, even in conditions like light rain or road spray, according to Morningstar.

This enables drivers to momentarily step back from routine driving tasks, particularly in stop-and-go traffic, improving efficiency and reducing stress during commutes in congested urban areas, Detroit Free Press said.
Drivers must remain seated, belted, and ready to take control of the wheel if needed. The system also adheres to regional regulations and local laws, including those limiting phone use while driving, according to CBT News.
Stellantis engineers have fine-tuned STLA AutoDrive to respond quickly and naturally, ensuring the system feels smooth, predictable, and human-like in real-world situations.
Whether maintaining safe following distances or adjusting to merging traffic, the system works effortlessly to deliver a confident, stress-free driving experience, Stellantis said in a press release.
“With its focus on safety, flexibility and long-term adaptability, STLA AutoDrive represents Stellantis’ next step toward more intelligent, comfortable and intuitive driving experiences,” Stellantis said in a press release.
