Motorcycle Safety: A Crucial Priority for Riders and Communities

Motorcycle accidents account for a disproportionate percentage of traffic fatalities and serious injuries. The dangers are real, and the importance of safety cannot be overstated.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motorcyclists are approximately 28 times more likely to die in a crash per mile traveled than passenger car occupants.

Helmet use, protective gear, and motorcycle safety courses are all proven to reduce the risk of injury and death. NHTSA reports that helmets are 37% effective in preventing motorcycle crash fatalities.

Protective clothing—such as jackets, gloves, and boots designed specifically for riders—can help minimize injury severity in the event of a crash.

Additionally, participating in safety training programs can greatly enhance a rider's skills and reaction time, which are crucial when navigating difficult or unpredictable road conditions.

While some accidents are unavoidable, taking proactive steps toward safety can make a world of difference. This includes staying up-to-date on local traffic laws, maintaining your motorcycle in proper working condition, and—most importantly—choosing to invest in proper protective gear.

Dirt Legal’s Commitment to Motorcycle Safety: Sponsoring the Montana Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MMSF) Vehicle Plate

At Dirt Legal, motorcycle safety isn’t just about statistics; it’s personal.

Alexander Leguizamon, Director of Client Success at Dirt Legal, lost his leg in a motorcycle accident in 2019. He was on his way to dinner when a car made a U-turn and crashed into him. Leguizamon shared his story, highlighting how crucial motorcycle safety is.

“I wanted to become law enforcement. I had even started taking classes, but once my accident happened, it didn't work out,” Leguizamon said.

It took him three months to walk again. “I flew further than my bike did,” he added.

The MMSF Vehicle Plate serves as both a symbol of support and a fundraising tool for crucial programs that educate riders and motorists alike.

“I think it (the MMSF Vehicle Plate) is very beneficial for riders out there who weren't as fortunate as I was,” Leguizamon said.

Proceeds from the plates go directly toward safety courses, advocacy efforts, and community outreach programs designed to make roads safer for all.

“Proper gear goes a long way,” Leguizamon emphasized, “almost everything you could break on a bike was broken,” he said, highlighting his experience.

Every plate purchased is a step forward in reducing motorcycle crashes and saving lives.

The sponsorship of the MMSF Vehicle Plate is our way of not only showing support for our local community but also fostering a culture of safety across the nation.

Brooks Barclay, a Client Success Manager at Dirt Legal, was in a motorcycle accident just last year. Breaking both his arms and his wrists, Barclay was grateful for the support he had during such a difficult time.

“I’m proud to be a part of this company and love to see us promoting safety and awareness for all riders,” Barclay said.

At Dirt Legal, we understand that motorcycle safety isn’t just about following rules—it’s about ensuring that riders can continue doing what they love safely.

“Riding is a passion that can not be given up. Although my doctor hated me for it, I was back to riding in 2 months - just practicing more attention than I already had before. People aren't kidding when you hear stories it just takes 1 second of a driver not noticing you for everything to go wrong,” Barclay said.

By supporting the Montana Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MMSF), Dirt Legal is investing in the future of safer motorcycling, ensuring that riders are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to protect themselves on the road.

This partnership represents more than just a sponsorship—it’s a cause close to our hearts. Two of our team members at Dirt Legal have been directly impacted by motorcycle accidents. Their stories drive our passion for supporting the MMSF’s efforts to reduce accidents and prevent future tragedies.

By sponsoring the MMSF vehicle plate, we aim to contribute to the foundation’s mission of promoting safer riding practices and raising awareness about the importance of motorcycle safety.

Together, we can help reduce accidents and create a safer environment for all riders.
