With a new 25% tariff now applied to imported vehicles in the U.S., industry experts anticipate a rise in car prices across the board. In response, Ford and Stellantis are easing buyer concerns by extending employee pricing to all customers. So far, GM has yet to roll out a similar offer, GM Authority said.
Titled "From America, For America," the promotion launched the same day a new 25% U.S. tariff on foreign vehicles went into effect.
Ford's initiative is active until June 2nd, while Stellantis employee pricing is applicable until the end of April, according to GM Authority.
“This week we launched aggressive and consistent incentive and marketing support for April, including an exciting and competitive enhancement that will allow our customers ‘America’s Freedom of Choice’ between employee price or current cash incentives,” a Stellantis spokesperson said.
Stellantis introduced the new measure after halting production at its plants in Canada and Mexico last month, a decision made in response to President Trump’s newly imposed tariffs on imported vehicles and auto parts, The Hill said.
CarsDirect reports that while Ford launched its employee pricing for everyone initiative, it also quietly eliminated several major rebates and significantly increased interest rates—dampening the overall appeal of the deal.
Promotional financing offers were removed across nearly the entire lineup, including models like the 2024 Ford Escape, Expedition, and Mustang. For example, buyers who once qualified for rates as low as 1.9% on the Escape are now facing standard rates that can reach up to 7%, Ford Authority said.
The new auto tariffs are already making waves in the car industry. Stellantis—parent company of Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, and more—has announced plans to idle production at its facilities in Canada and Mexico, with a temporary layoff of 900 Midwest workers, according to CBS News Detroit.
