Miami Military Trucks and Dirt Legal: Building a Legacy with Street-Legal Military Vehicles
Dirt Legal has a long history of supporting the surplus military vehicle market, starting with the Humvee but certainly not excluding gems like the LMTV, FMTV, and even the older classics like the M35.
Well, here in South Florida there is an organization close to us that takes it upon themselves to purchase and restore these great vehicles and either restore them to their former glory or make them into something really cool. They are known simply as Miami Military Trucks, and they are dang good at what they do. Let’s take a look at these guys, what they do, and some of their rides.
Who Are Miami Military Trucks?
Military trucks are one of the most popular OHVs for street legal status that we do, and for a lot of great reasons! For one thing, there are lots of them and as the military retires them or phases them out, there is a steady supply of new-to-you vehicles and lots of spare parts to go with them.
Miami Military Trucks has been picking up these surplus trucks for over two decades now and restoring them or creating really cool things out of them like this kind of ridiculous, totally cool super-stretch Humvee.
Miami Military Trucks uses their trucks regularly for non-profit events and local outreach, so they were a natural partnership to work with Dirt Legal.
Why Military Vehicles Are Gaining Popularity
Surplus Army trucks have always been popular and we can’t really say for sure whether they are more popular now than they have been in the past, but we certainly know that there is a high enough demand for them to be viable and profitable if that’s your interest.
And why not? They are crazy capable machines that were designed for the very worst conditions on planet earth and they just kept coming back for more. So when you throw something mundane at them, they basically just yawn and come back for more.
How Did Miami Military Trucks Get Started, and Who Are They?
Who exactly is Miami Military Trucks? Are they a company, or just a bunch of stand-up dudes who like old Army trucks? And why can’t it be both? Well, it turns out it can be both.
Miami Military Trucks is a local non-profit military restoration group based in Miami, FL. Not only do they restore but they also buy and sell Military vehicles of all kinds (Humvees, 5 tons, LMTVs, and more). They have been doing this for more than 20 years, which is a whole lot of army trucks. On the business side of the house, they buy army trucks that often need some TLC and bring them back to original condition, or in some cases either embellish them or physically modify the trucks, depending on the requests of the buyer.
Miami Military Trucks are also active in the local community and run their impressive fleet of trucks in all kinds of local events, parades, charities, and outreach to veterans. In fact, it was at a local event (https://www.carsandcoffeemiami.com/) that we ran into the crew from Miami Military Trucks and got to know them a little better.
Check out our very own VP of Sales, Trace Garrettson, talk to the guys from Miami Military Trucks about what they do and our relationship with them.
Anyway, we are active participants in the vibrant South Florida automotive community and were strolling through the Cars & Coffee meetup in Miami when a solid row of military vehicles. We’re talking LMTVs, 5-ton trucks, and of course, Humvees. That is the sort of thing that we cannot just overlook, so we headed over to talk to the owners and see what it was all about.
Well, it is indeed a small world because the organization’s owner, Brian, is a customer of ours! It turns out that the process of getting a surplus military vehicle tagged really is as painful as we’ve talked about in the past, but our services were able to help Brian get some of his vehicles titled and registered. Awesome.
And Miami Military Trucks is a family affair, which you can clearly see in their many Instagram posts. This just goes to make the whole thing even cooler. Seriously, what is more awesome than growing up with your mom and dad cruising the streets of Miami in a soft-top MIL-SPEC Humvee? Probably nothing, that’s what.
With the large and continuous availability of surplus military vehicles through Government Planet, and even Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace, military vehicles have always been popular and they aren’t going anywhere. Dirt Legal can help you get them titled and tagged like we helped Brian and his team.
