Why is this needed?

The SF-97 (Standard Form 97), also referred to as United States Government Certificate to Obtain a Title to a Vehicle, is a proof of ownership document for military and government vehicles. It allows former government vehicles to be titled by the general public.

• Transferor (from) will be a division of the US Government.

• Transferee (to) is the auction company

Your SF-97 should be accompanied by an SF-97 Reassignment Form, which is usually from a government auction website like IronPlanet. This form reassigns the SF-97 to the person who purchased from the auction company. There may be multiple reassignment forms if it has been transferred multiple times.
