Please note: We will need a valid proof of ownership to register your trailer. If your title is not properly signed over to you or the LLC, we may need additional documentation.

What you’ll get:
You’ll get a Montana license plate, registration, & title, and the trailer will be owned by a Montana LLC, which in turn is owned by you.
We’ll set up your Montana LLC instantly after receiving your order. The LLC should get approved within 1 business day.
4-6 weeks to get your license plate and registration. Your title will arrive 6-8 weeks later.
As of February 2024, orders are taking up to 6 weeks due to the DMV being short-staffed, so we are providing a free 40-day temp tag shortly after sending your documents to the DMV for processing.
If you want a temp tag right away, you can purchase it by selecting "Yes, please send me a temp tag" when placing your order.
"How can I get an out-of-state registration without being a resident?"
Simple.
Montana allows you to register from anywhere, but only if you’re a resident of Montana. Therefore, we set you up with a Montana LLC and register your trailer using your LLC as the owner instead of you. The LLC meets Montana’s residency requirement, and because the LLC is a resident of Montana, and you own the LLC, you can drive in other states with out-of-state plates.
For us to register your vehicle, we require one of the following:
A valid title in your name
A title that has been signed over to you
If the title was issued in Kentucky, Louisiana, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, or Pennsylvania, ensure that the seller has had the title notarized before sending it to us
A Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin (MCO) from the dealership where you purchased the vehicle, accompanied by a bill of sale
A transferable registration from a state that doesn’t issue titles
Additionally, the title must not be labeled as 'junk' or 'salvage'. Rebuilt is okay.

If you’d like to insure your trailer, you’ll want a policy from your state, and you will simply add the LLC as an additional interest for no extra cost.
All trailers get a permanent registration, meaning you never have to renew the plate. You will just have to renew the Montana LLC which is $125 per year. We offer a service to renew this for your automatically each year.
LLC renewals are due by April 15th each year.

Your LLC is classified as an ASSET HOLDING LLC, not a REVENUE GENERATING LLC, therefore, no taxes will have to be filed.

You will want to get a policy in your name and your state with the LLC added as an additional interest. It will not be a commercial policy.

Once your Montana LLC is set you can continue to add vehicles to that same LLC. All you need to do is select "Yes" that you have an existing Montana LLC with Dirt Legal when you place your order here. The cost will be $300 lower than the regular price.

Personalized Plate
When you add a personalized plate to your order, we’ll automatically email an online form to complete so you can customize the characters on your license plate.
Once your order is processed by the DMV, you'll receive a 40-day temp tag until your custom plate arrives.
You can choose a total of 6 or 7 characters, consisting of letters and numbers, and one of the designs, as seen here.
